Yes, if your nationality and onward destination fall under Turkey’s electronic airport transit visa (e-ATV) requirement. Staying in the international transit area does not automatically exempt you. For most other passengers whose connection remains entirely airside, a Turkish transit visa is generally not required.

Who needs to check the e-ATV requirement?

The Turkish Consulate General in Paris’s transit guidance identifies an electronic visa requirement for travelers from the following countries transiting through Turkey to Mexico, Panama, Colombia or Venezuela:

• Burkina Faso
• Cameroon
• Chad
• Guinea
• India
• Mauritania
• Nepal
• Somalia
• Yemen

If this matches your passport and itinerary, check the applicable instructions through the official Turkish eVisa portal before departure. Do not assume that remaining airside removes the requirement.

What counts as staying in the transit area?

You must be able to connect without passing through Turkish passport control. Ask your airline whether your baggage will be checked through and whether you can obtain your next boarding pass airside, especially when traveling on separate tickets.

An e-ATV is for airport transit; it does not authorize entry into Turkey. If you need to collect baggage landside, change airports or leave the transit area, check the separate entry rules for your nationality and circumstances.
