What Is the Difference Between a Turkey eVisa and a Sticker Visa?

A Turkey eVisa is issued electronically for eligible tourism or business visits, while a sticker visa is placed in your passport through a Turkish embassy or consulate’s application process. The right route depends on your nationality, passport type, travel purpose and applicable conditions—not simply your preferred application method.

• Turkey eVisa: Eligible travelers apply online and download the visa after approval and payment. No visa sticker is required in the passport. Some applicants must meet additional conditions, such as holding a qualifying supporting visa or residence permit.
• Turkey sticker visa: Travelers who need a visa but do not qualify for an eVisa must follow the relevant Turkish mission’s instructions. The process can include an online pre-application, supporting documents and an appointment. Sticker visas also cover purposes outside the eVisa scheme, such as work or study, subject to the relevant requirements.

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms that eVisas are limited to tourism or commerce. A sticker visa can also be issued for tourism; it is not exclusively for work or study.

Neither visa guarantees entry. Check the permitted stay, validity dates and number of entries on the visa issued to you. If your trip qualifies for visa-free entry, you do not need to buy an eVisa.
